大覚寺で毎年開催される観月の夕べに参加してきました。
平安時代に嵯峨天皇が造営した離宮（＝大覚寺）は古くからの観月の名所。
中秋の名月に、大沢池を中心に「観月の夕べ」が催されます。
9世紀初め嵯峨天皇が大沢池に船を浮かべて文化人と共に遊ばれたことが始まりと言われているそうです。
観月の夕べは毎年中秋の名月の時期に3日間行われます。
古式にのっとり大陸風の龍頭船、鷁首船を浮べられて、そこから月を鑑賞できるという、平安時代そのものの雰囲気を味わえる貴重な行事。

Continuing a tradition that has taken place at Osawa Pond next to Daikakuji since the Heian era, this event gives you the chance to float on a boat in the pond under a clear autumn moon.
If the moon is at the right angle, you’ll see a moon in the sky and a counterpart on the still waters of the pond.
This event is held during the moon-viewing season (normally in October) for three days every year.
